The results are in! Based on overwhelming numbers, the next party will be held on Saturday, July 21st. It will be a backyard barbecue at my house, followed by movie-watching on (hopefully) my shiny new TV.

I'll be firing up the grill at 3:00 PM. Movie watching will begin approximately around 6:00 PM, or whenever we've had enough feasting. The party ends approximately by midnight, or whenever we get tired.

Arrive: 2:00 PM if you're going to help set up. 2:30 if you're bringing items for the grill. 3:00 PM otherwise.
Bring: FOOD. I shall be providing the following: Hamburgers, BBQ chicken legs, grilled chicken breasts, some veggies for grilling, ketchup, mustard, relish, and a massive charcoal grill. I need people to pick/bring items from the list below. Claim one or more items from the list in a COMMENT so that people can see what's already been claimed. Also, if you have them, bring camp chairs, if you've got them. We have a bunch, but if we end up hanging out outside (if the weather isn't too scalding), I don't know if I'll have enough. We might not need them, but I'd rather have extra than not enough.
Costumes: Why not, right? Our First Officer is back in town, so I plan to bring out the green body paint. We haven't done costumes in a while, so bring your craziest!
MOVIES! Please leave suggestions for movie-watching in comments.

Food List:
Potato Salad
Pasta Salad
Regular Salad
Hamburger Rolls
Hot Dogs
Hot Dog Rolls
Desserts (Geoff?)
Salad Dressing
Paper Goods (plates, cups, plastic ware, paper towels)
***Other stuff for the grill! If you have something that you know will be great on the grill, bring it along. Your Captain and resident Grill Master will do all the work!

So, that's about it! RSVP, claim items to bring for the barbecue, and offer movie/episode suggestions in comments!

Attention crew!

Okay, I admit... I've been slacking. Well, I've been out of town. And busy. And getting set up with a new job. And you know... shit like that. But it's been TOO LONG since the last voyage of the USS Macchiato. We need to remedy this!

I'm going to be out of town until the 7th of July, so we're looking ahead at the 14th and 21st of July for a party. Also, mizuno_caitlin will be in town! That's right, our First Officer is back! Therefore, a party MUST happen.

I now have a large barbecue grill, and would like to host this party at my house. There shall be grilling, a fire pit, s'mores, and then movies or episodes downstairs in the Geek Cave. Also, I might have a shiny new TV by then, for our viewing pleasure.

I'd like the barbecue to be a semi-pot-luck. I'll provide certain essentials for the barbecue, but it's expensive to pull together a whole grilling feast. So that I can plan what needs to be bought, please let me know what you are willing to contribute to the spread. Salads? Condiments? Stuff to be grilled? Desserts? Drinks? Remember that you can bring raw items that I can throw on the grill, too. So, in a comment below, let me know if you're able to bring something, and what you'd be willing to bring. I'll plan my purchases to fill in what other people aren't able to bring.

But before we do anything else, we need to decide on a date. So... when will it be?

Poll #1850244 USS Macchiato Party in July!

What days could you attend a Macchiato Party?

Normally, I post a poll, but in this case, I've done some asking around instead to get a feel for availability, and most people seem to be available on the 31st. Based on the fact that I have a friend in town who would like to attend, and she'll be flying out after that weekend, I offer the following without a vote:

We shall convene at the Captain's Quarters (my house) on Saturday, March 31st, starting around 2:00 PM in the afternoon.

We'll start with a movie or a couple of episodes to break into the party (or a couple of episodes). Around 5:00 PM, we'll break out the pot luck goodies and have a dinner and schmoozing. After that... we had such a good time with episodes at the last party, I think I'd like to do that again.

If you have any series, episodes, or themes you want to nominate, speak up! Leave a comment with your requests/suggestions. Remember, last time, we started with Q episodes of TNG, which then morphed into "TNG episodes with TOS characters." So, last time was TNG-heavy. We have love for all-things-Trek, so anything goes. Tell us what you want to see! We can make it so.

The party will continue until we drop, but the last people need to be out by 2:00 AM at the ABSOLUTE latest. Also, while I extend the invitation of crash space to all who absolutely need it (otherwise they won't be able to come), I'd like to keep overnight guests to a minimum this time. If you need to stay, PLEASE ask ahead of time so I can plan, but please only ask to stay if you really need to.

Also, on a completely different note, next weekend (March 24th and 25th) is Planet Comicon, right here in Kansas City. The cost is $15 for a single day, or $20 for the weekend. Yep - that's one of the cheapest convention registration tickets you'll ever find. Aaaand... allegedly, Edward James Olmos and Billy Dee Williams will be there. (Come on, it's Admiral-Freakin'-Adama and Lando-BAMF-Calrissian. How can you not want this?)

Anyone interested in joining me for at least a few hours of convention insanity?

In a comment, please post the following:
- Can you come to a Macchiato party on the 31st of March? WILL you come?
- Can you bring pot luck goodies? What do you plan to bring?
- Are you interested in Planet Comicon? Would you come on Saturday or Sunday or both? Want to costume as a group?

All right! The February party is set for this Saturday, Feb. 18th. It's at hawkelf and I's place, not the Captain's, don't forget! If you need the address or...not very good directions, just PM me! It will be a potluck and ideally we will be watching movies and episodes. If you want something other than TOS, however, someone else needs to bring it! Our collection is sort of building slowly.

Naka-kon people, shake off your con funk and come party with the rest of the crew!

eta: People can start arriving at around 3, and dinner will start at 5!

As far as FOOD goes, I figured I would have another poll so people could vote and choose what to cook at their discretion.

Poll #1818770 Potluck Food

What are you bringing?

Main dish!
side dish!
Something else!

Hey y'all! It's about that time again, ie: too long since the last party! So me and the roommate figured it was once again time to invite y'all over to hang out, watch movies, goof around, eat good food, and generally annoy our college student neighbors with loud geekiness. (It's payback, we swear.)

With how busy this month is for quite a bit of the crew, there's really only one viable weekend (especially in our schedules!) so this is more of a Friday vs. Saturday thing. And there's always the question of how we want to do food, etc. And what we want to do... oh dear.

As usual, if you need directions (dubious ones at best) or an address (much easier) just PM me!

(I was very tired when I made this post and I apologise because you can probably tell)

(I really like parenthesis when I'm tired.)

So, based on the poll (which was tallied without my vote), the USS Macchiato Holiday Party will take place December 31st (New Year's Eve), starting at 3:00 PM at the Captain's Quarters. What could be better than this, guys? New Year's Eve with the Macchiato crew! :D

Only 8 people participated in the poll, so I want to make sure that we've got everyone on-board here. I'm probably going to send out notes to people, reminding them. In the meantime, we've got ten people, if you include me, my Trophy Wife, and Paul (who is not on LJ). I'm sure we'll end up with more than that, but I need a head-count so I can guess what size of turkey to bake. Also, if you need my address, send me a PM.

So... here are the details:

The party begins at 3:00 PM. Because people "trickle in" to our parties, I plan to serve turkey at 4:00 PM, and do the Yankee Swap between 5:00 and 6:00, depending on when people arrive. After the Yankee Swap, we'll indulge in a movie or episodes until approximately 9:00 PM.

At 9:00 PM, the USS Macchiato Holiday Party is technically over, but the party will go on! More people will arrive, and the party will morph into "A Mighty Fine Shindig (or Jenn's Fancy Dress New Year's Eve Party)." Details on that, as written by my Trophy Wife:
Come celebrate the New Year style at Fiona & Mijan's place. Wear your best fancy dress, dressy costume or other festive party wear. (Interesting interpretations of the dress code always welcome and appreciated).

You're welcome (but in no way expected) to bring an alcohol to contribute to the bar, no-utensil-needed appetizers, party favors/hats/noisemakers, and even a friend or two. Just give us a heads up that you're coming so we know how much champagne to get. Those needing a place to sleep should bring their own pajamas, though. I have limits.

The NYE party portion of the evening will go until 2:00 AM... or whenever we all collapse. There will be a champagne toast at midnight. As always, there's plenty of crash space here. Five futons, a guest bed, a couch, a very large reclining armchair, and an air mattress are available.

You can attend either portion of the party, or all of it. If you want to dress fancy for the second portion, but not the first, feel free to bring a change of clothes.

And now... my ever-present list of bullet points:

1. RSVP! Please leave a comment below, confirming that you're coming.

2. Pot Luck. Bring something. If you want to see what other people have already volunteered to bring, check out the poll. (If you haven't voted in it, you still can.) Please let us know what you're bringing, so we don't duplicate it.

2.A. Food allergies/dietary requirements? If you have anything in particular that you can't eat for whatever reason, please let me know. People here are cool. We'll make sure you have adequate foodstuffs to indulge in.

3. Yankee Swap! Bring a present, suitable for any Star Trek geek (or really, for ANY geek). It does not have to be Star Trek themed, but Star Trek themed is always good, too. It can be anything fun and nerdy. It should not cost more than $15. Aim for $10. Hand-made gifts are perfectly appropriate. Fully wrap the gift to conceal the contents, but DO NOT put anyone's name on it. Not your name, not a recipient's name. It's an anonymous item. I'll explain the rules when everyone has arrived. In the end, everyone brings a present, and everyone ends up with a present. How we GET to that state is where the fun lies.

4. Pick a movie/episode! We're going to watch something. Nominations are open. Please nominate your favorite in a comment below.

5. Did I mention - RSVP.

Attention Crew! You know what time it is. Tinsel and cookies and gaudy inflatable lawn decorations. Decorated trees, presents, and throwing snowballs at carollers. Best of all... time for gathering together with the best crew in the 'Fleet to share food, festivities, and the joy of the season.

Scheduling our annual holiday party might be a bit of a challenge this year. Here's where it stands for me, at least...

This Saturday is just too damned soon. That's the 10th. And I'm busy the 11th. This weekend just won't work.

Saturday the 17th is Longest Night Ball at Gaia Community Church. It's NOT a religious event. It's simply a festive, formal dance with costumes to celebrate the longest night of the year. All are welcome, regardless of whether they're members of Gaia Community. (And seriously, it's an awesome time.) However, not only am I attending with my Trophy Wife, but several other members of the crew are attending the ball. And then Sunday the 18th... is the last weekend shopping day before Christmas weekend itself. YEAH. NO.

On Christmas, I'm sure many of us will be busy with our families, religious obligations, and so on. That weekend is out.

Then... there's New Year's Eve Weekend. NYE falls on Saturday night. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?  :D

My Trophy Wife has proposed the following:

The USS Macchiato convenes at the Captain's House around mid-afternoon (maybe 3:00 or 4:00 PM) for our official crew holiday party. There shall be pot-luck, gift exchange, and so on. I'm baking a turkey. You guys bring the trimmings. Later in the evening, other friends who are not crew members may arrive for general New Year's Eve. The theme of the whole night would be formal-dress or formal-costume. Wear something nice, or bring something nice to change into for the second half of the evening. This would be the Macchiato Crew Gettin' Fancy. We'd have a champagne toast at midnight.

Besides, what could be better than ringing in the New Year with the most epic crew to explore the galaxy the Midwest?

The other option: Party on January 7th, but it probably couldn't be at my house, OR it couldn't be late at night. I'd have a million things to do, as I'd be leaving on vacation during the week that week. Basic holiday party. I'll still bake a turkey. We'll still have epic good times. Still do the Yankee Swap. Just no epic New Year's festivities. If it's at my house, we'd start the party around 2:00 PM, and finish no later than 10:00 PM. Alternately, we can hold it at burnmybody's place if we want to party later into the night.

The weekend of the 14th and 15th, I'll be out of town, and I don't really want to push the holiday party later than that anyway.

Okay, so the party will definitely be on the 19th of November, ie: This upcoming Saturday. We figured the party could start about 5:30 or 6, and remember that it's not at the Captain's, it's at Hawkelf and I's place! So if you need the address, just pm me!

We'll just be ordering pizza, so bring a few bucks to pitch in if you'd like some.
06 November 2011 @ 11:53 pm
O hai y'all! We're thinking of having another party soon! (Yes, again. November needs love too.) We're trying to figure out dates, though! (Because we're indecisive.) This party would be at our place again, not the Captain's, so if you still need the address, feel free to PM me!

No matter what day, the party will probably start around/shortly after 5, as we're inviting some of our friends from the KCAI QUILTBAG group. More trekkies! But that does mean it's not a strictly a Macchiato party and there will be a larger amount of college students attending, if that's not your thing. (They're all very nice people, we promise.)

What day can you come to the party?

Nov. 18
Nov. 19
Nov. 20

As far as food etc. goes for the party, I figured we could put that to a vote as well. Because...we're indecisive.

What should we do for food type stuff?

Let's just order pizza or something.
Just snacks!
I have an idea that I will detail in a comment.
